Cosmo’s Dream

Cosmo’s Dream Americana trio – is promoting their first CD collection of original songs, Big Sky Blues. This Tacoma, Washington based trio, which features Gen Obata on flat-pick guitar and mandolin, Steve Nebel on guitar, and Kristi Nebel on bass, blends acoustic musicianship with solo vocals and dynamic three‐part harmonies. Steve, Kristi, and Gen have recorded three solo CDs, nine duo CDs, and six band CDs. The trio has toured the mid‐western US in February and the United Kingdom in August of 2016.

Early in 2015, Steve and Kristi Nebel teamed up with Gen Obata in Tacoma, WA USA to form the trio, Cosmo’s Dream. The band‘s CD is titled “Big Sky Blues” and has received local and national folk radio airplay. Obata, originally from St. Louis, Missouri, is known for his bluegrass flatpicking and fine songwriting. Gen Obata has been writing songs and playing flatpick guitar since the 1970’s, as a member of numerous bluegrass bands. Roy Kasten in the St. Louis Riverfront Times writes about Gen Obata: “Over the years, Obata has managed to capture the best of the American singer/songwriter tradition and the best of the country instrumental legacy.” Roy also writes, “his guitar playing has the emphatic muscularity of Lester Flatt and the illuminating melodicism of Doc Watson, who, like Obata, developed his style on old fiddle tunes transposed to guitar.”

Steve Nebel’s songwriting on a previous Steve and Kristi Nebel CD, “Raven Speaks”, was chosen by Bob Sherman for one of his top ten picks in 2010 for his award‐winning show in New York City, “Woody’s Children”. Kristi Nebel was among five finalists for the Academy of Western Arts Female Singer of the Year for 2014. She performs western swing and Americana music with her band, Cowgirl’s Dream. Steve and Kristi Nebel (pron. knee bull) learned to perform during ten years on the road as working musicians, and more years on the road in more recent years performing their own songs in folk clubs, and at festivals. Each has honed skills on instruments having played many styles of music over their years of experience. Kristi plays bass guitar, and Steve plays guitar. Steve and Kristi Nebel started touring folk clubs in the UK in 2001. They have done 8 UK tours and summer’s of 2016 was their ninth, as Cosmo’s Dream with Gen Obata.
