Autumn on Fidalgo Island
Eagles chitter chatter in the breeze,
Apples falling to the ground,
Leaves drifting down through the mist,
The sound of people walking on the nature trail,
Children laughing when they play at recess,
Jumping in piles of leaves,
The warm smell of apple pie,
Kids in creepy costumes saying “Trick or Treat”,
The long boring ride home,
“Wait! Over there, a blue heron!”
Eating up all those fish,
How quiet when Anacortes children are writing fall poems,
Autumn on Fidalgo Island
